The Matchless Love of God

by Mar 2, 2018Missions

This month I felt to write my blog about the love of God. At first, I wasn’t so sure about the topic. I thought, “Maybe we’ve all heard about this enough? Maybe this is being sort of repetitive and we already know about the love of God?” But then I thought about it, and doesn’t it really all come down to love? That God SO LOVED us first that now we are transformed by love and can love the world? Couldn’t we really all receive a fresh washing of His love – the love that takes away all our fear; His love that quiets us, bringing us peace and comfort (Zephaniah 3:17); the love that grounds us, bringing us confidence that we are Christ’s pearl of great price and adopted in love into God’s family.

So today, I just want to remind you of His love for you, and I believe He wants to wash over you afresh. Receive His love wherever you are and whatever you are going through – no matter what you are feeling today.

He is the Source of love.

I want to remind you in this season that God is the Source of love, for He is Love. Sometimes we might let the world around us define what love is. Maybe we see a picture of a couple together or a scene from a movie, or maybe we read a magazine column talking about a couple’s love relationship. But remember that God is love (1 John 4:8). He is the Source of love (1 John 4:7). And His is a perfect love. Let Him be your example of love and define what love is. He invented it! (smile)

This is a perfect description of who He is:

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails …” 1 Corinthians 13:4-8

We could never exhaust His love.

We could tell of God’s love over and over every day! For how could we begin to describe who God (Love) is? He is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end (Revelation 1:8). His love endures forever (Psalm 118:1). His love is higher than the heavens (Psalm 108:4). You can receive more of His love for you right now in this moment, letting it go deeper and deeper in every place that you need. I see His love as a waterfall coming and filling you and crashing over you. Receive His mighty love that never ends! Remember the love of God for you – right now! Even if you think you know it pretty well.

In 2 Chronicles 20, enemies are coming against King Jehoshaphat and the people of God. The Lord told them to face their enemies, and that He would bring deliverance – that they would not have to fight the battle. When God’s people marched out against the enemy, they sent a select group to go before them, singing and praising the Lord saying, “Give thanks to the Lord, for his steadfast love endures forever” (2 Chronicles 20:21).

Think about this for a moment. What did the people of God proclaim as they went to face the enemy? It wasn’t that God was powerful, though He is. It wasn’t that He defeats our enemies, though He does. It wasn’t that He is our defender, though that is true. Their declaration was of His steadfast LOVE – Wow! I think there is a key for us here. They focused on and declared who He was (Love) and let His love define who they were. They rested knowing that Love had already won the battle for them, “for the battle is not yours but God’s” (2 Chronicles 20:15).

Consider stopping right now wherever you are to declare His great love. Sing and praise Him for His love in the midst of your battles. Let Him and His love ground and define you today. Declare His love into every situation and drink deep of His love again, for Love is here to wash over you anew.
