No More Fear!
Over the last few weeks, I’ve been really pondering what God has in store for this next season. I’m excited to see what this next season holds but at the same time I feel like we are standing at the edge of the unknown (well, unknown to us that is). As I’ve prayed I’ve been expecting to see or know details of what’s next. Instead, I have only a general vision. Enough to keep walking towards this ‘unknown’ but not enough to know what it really looks like. It is sort of like having a blurred picture that you can almost make out the objects and people in it, but not really.
What about you? Are you in a season where you have a general vision to walk out but don’t quite know what it really looks like? Sometimes when we don’t really know what’s next we can begin to worry or move into fear. I used to play golf on a professional mini-tour level. When I wasn’t sure about how well I could hit my next shot I would begin to fear. My fear would manifest and I would hit a poor shot. Have you ever had that happen, where you feared something and it came to pass?
Recently, I started playing golf again. Even though I had broke through fear in many other areas of my life, it was still there when I went back to golf. Here I was in a tournament again and I began to hit poor shots again due to my anxiety. I began to talk to the Lord and heard him say, “if you will just focus on my goodness it will overwhelm everything else.” So that’s what I did. With 6 holes left, I played with excitement and joy as the fear lifted because of God’s goodness. I was so excited and felt so free. My answer to fear that day was to focus on the goodness of my heavenly Father. So good!
A couple of days later I was sharing my testimony of His goodness and the Lord spoke to me again. He said “You are created in my image. Who am I?” I replied, “You are perfect love!” Then it clicked in my mind. Perfect love casts out fear. We’ve heard it a million times but if that is who God is and who he created me to be then fear can no longer reside in me.
Freedom hit me in that moment. I realized not only did I break through fear that day but I don’t have to go back to it. Fear cannot be where love is. HE IS PERFECT LOVE. YOU are created in HIS image. YOU are created to be LOVE. So tell fear to take a hike because it can’t live where love is and LOVE is who YOU are!
