There are times in our walk with God when things seem hard to bear. There are times where we just want to quit because it seems like walking this Christian walk is too hard, isn’t fair, or is just too much. There are times where we just don’t understand why everything seems like a struggle to keep moving forward. I don’t know a single person who has not had this experience in life. However, as a Christian, we have hope in these moments even when it feels like we don’t. We have a high priest who can sympathize with us and intercedes for us. Through Him, we have mercy and grace through these times when we are struggling.
Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:14-16 NASB
We have God who loves us and is continually working all things together for the good as in Romans 8:28. Because God is faithful, true, just, honorable, loving, merciful, gracious, and compassionate we truly can take joy in every situation we face in life even if we don’t “feel” it. Not only can we take joy, but in James, we are told that these moments where our faith feels tested that endurance is produced, and through endurance, completion.
Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. James 1:2-4 NASB
With these scriptures in mind, I just want to encourage anyone who is feeling this way that even if you don’t “feel” like you can have hope or take joy that the word is TRUE. Cling to the word of God in these moments. Endure, persevere, and rest in it.
