Extreme Love Ministries advocates for children and their rights, according to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
We believe that children have rights to all of the following:
- The right to life
- The right to his or her own name and identity
- The right to be protected from abuse or exploitation
- The right to an education
- The right to having their privacy protected
- To be raised by or have a relationship with their parents
- The right to express their opinions and have these listened to and, where appropriate, acted upon
- The right to play and enjoy culture and art in safety
Anti-trafficking efforts to women and children are one of ELM’s main purposes in outreach, rescue, and aftercare efforts. The ELM team works in a variety of ways to specifically coordinate repatriations, rescues, and protection for trafficked and exploited Cambodian children. This requires a network of government officials, police, investigators, social workers, and organizations to facilitate successful results. ELM’s rescue efforts seek to ensure that vulnerable children will not be placed back in the care of the person(s) who sold them and that they will receive safe, ongoing care and restoration for physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. ELM’s casework is located within two major cities, Poipet and Phnom Penh, to help make these rescue and protection efforts possible. We also believe that every child has the right to a family, and if safe kinship care options are available, they are considered. Extreme Love Ministries seeks to keep children in families, if at all possible. However, outside care options, including our Operation Justice Children’s Homes, are alternative placement options for those children that are in need of long-term residential care.
We take the rights of each child seriously, and we do not encourage secondary exploitation through media or direct contact of foreign visitors with the children in our care. If you desire to read more, concerning our media and child protection policies you can do so HERE.
Designated guidelines are mandatory and non-negotiable. All Extreme Love Ministries staff, volunteers, and affiliates must agree and adhere to these policies.
