Can you help me start a business to help support my family? Such requests thrill our hearts! Helping vulnerable families in Cambodia is at the core of why we’re here: Economic self-sufficiency helps break the chains of generational poverty —and helps protect at-risk children from the ever-present threat of human traffickers.

Our relationship with Dyneath began several years ago when we began working in her slum community. Our strategy is to build long-term relationships with families through regular visits and helping to meet pressing needs, like food or medical care. Trust is built along the way, and we begin to share Jesus with them.

Dyneath’s mother gave her heart to the Lord a few years ago, and her growing love for Jesus has helped to transform the lives of many, including lots of orphaned and neglected children!

We also were able to find sponsors for Dyneath’s two children, a girl named Dylyya and a boy, Dyraby, so they could attend school.

As this family grows in the Lord, so too do ideas about bettering their lives. We always promote self-sufficiency, so that helped Dyneath realize that her home is located in a good place to open a business. Other markets are nearby, and her street gets plenty of traffic.

So our Education Empowerment (EEP) team spoke with her at length to discuss the type of business she wanted to run. Not everyone who wants to open a business, we knew, has the ability to successfully run one. We felt the Lord confirm this idea, so we moved ahead, helping her with a business plan and a micro-loan.

We recently paid Dyneath a visit. To our delight, she has done an excellent job keeping records, and seems to get enough customers to keep going! Her shop serves a popular Ovaltine-like iced drink she mixes herself while customers wait. She also sells cold bottled soft drinks, water, and energy drinks, as well as some snacks and instant noodles.

Dyneath has been faithfully repaying her loan a little each month. We are excited for her, and so thankful for your gifts that made this success story possible! You helped break the chains of poverty for one person—and protect the vulnerable children from human trafficking in the process.
