It’s the Small Things

by Nov 17, 2017Missions

What’s on my heart to write about today is something that my eyes have recently been opened to. It is something that I have been noticing, and this is the “small things”.

The “small things” may easily be overlooked because they might be a part of your daily life. The stress of the day might bury them and cause you not to see them. The small things might not stand out to you as much as they did before because you are used to seeing them or have forgotten to acknowledge them.

God has helped me to see these “small things” lately. This could be as simple as coming home after work and your child, spouse, or roommate tells you that they appreciate you and it’s just what you need to hear at the time! It might be that a friend or maybe even someone you don’t know gives you one of your favorite snacks or drinks. I have an example from about a week ago.

I needed a new backpack. I used my old one almost every day, and it was getting holes in the bottom, dirty, and looking fairly ragged. I went to the mall to do some shopping and could not find exactly what I was looking for out of all the stores I went to. During this process, I was intentional to tell my good Father that I needed one. I just invited Him into the backpack searching process. (smile)

Well, hours later as I was walking home that evening, I turned down a street that I normally don’t go down. I went home a different way that night for no particular reason. As I walked, a store caught my eye that sold bags. I looked in from the street and decided to go in. Sure enough, they had a backpack that fit what I was looking for, and it was perfect! This was such a sweet reminder to me of God’s nearness. This was a reminder of how He knows my needs and is acquainted with all my ways; how He directs my steps and faithfully leads and guides me. This was a “smaller thing” but a sweet moment to share with my Father.

I want to share a Scripture verse with you – Psalm 46:10 (TPT), “Surrender your anxiety! Be silent and stop your striving and you will see that I am God. I am the God above all the nations, and I will be exalted throughout the whole earth.”

I have seen how anxiety will try to steal from me during my day. But, when we take a deep breath, remember our God’s nearness to us, and surrender whatever we are going through to Him, then I think we are able to see these “small things”. We are able to see the way He is ever present with us. We see Him helping us all throughout our day, how He loves on us through the people around us, and how He faithfully provides for our needs and desires!

So I encourage you today to take a deep breath wherever you are. Slow down and breathe His presence in deep. He wraps around you and is the closest one to you. He really is taking care of you, even in the “small things”.

“Where could I go from your Spirit? Where could I run and hide from your face?” Psalm 139:7
