Standing on God’s Promises

Have you ever been at a place in your life where you felt truly called by God to do something or He gave you a strong Word in your heart about something, only to keep getting doors slammed in your face left and right? I have experienced this myself in the past, and most recently I have watched one of my dearest loved ones go through it. It has been so hard to watch them in pain and disappointment over and over again and not be able to do anything in the natural to help fix it. Sometimes we just have to do everything we know to do in these type of situations both spiritually and in the natural, and then stand in faith on the Word and promises of God.

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the LORD. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.” – Isaiah 55:8

We do not know the reason for everything God does, or for things He allows to happen, but we must trust that He knows what is best for us. If we have done our part both spiritually and in the natural, then we must trust God to do the rest in His own timing. If you are anything like me, waiting has not always been my strong suit! It is easier said than done, but God is always right on time. Perhaps He is protecting us from something at times, and other times, maybe He just has something better in mind!

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” – Romans 8:28

When I was going through a similar battle a few years ago, I knew I had heard the Lord speak to me about something. He had told me that he would give my husband and me a child. I have shared my story of redemption here before, but for the benefit of those who did not read it, in 2008 God set me free from a 15-year hardcore drug addiction! Though God has fully restored my relationships with my daughters, I did not get to raise them due to this addiction.

By the time I remarried in 2012, I had over 4 years clean and my daughters were almost grown. One of them had already graduated high school and the other 2 were close behind her. My tubes had been tied for over 15 years when I got married, but I knew what God had said to me! He said He would give us a child and I believed Him. Over the next couple of years we had our hearts broken several times with two surgeries and four miscarriages, but every time I felt like giving up, I could still hear the voice of the Lord saying loud and strong, “I WILL give you a child!”. So I never gave up. I stood and I believed what He had told me and I pressed in for our miracle.

And boy did we ever get one! After our 4th miscarriage, our doctor recommended in vitro fertilization, saying this was our best shot at having a baby. At the time, we just couldn’t afford it being that it costs around $20,000! I then heard the nurses talking about a Fertility Seminar that following weekend where they would be doing a drawing for a FREE cycle of in vitro!  Something leaped inside of me and I thought, “God is this how you want to give us our baby?”

I felt strongly that we would win this, so I took off work that Saturday and had 3 prayer warriors agreeing with us in prayer that if this was God’s will for us that we would win it and guess what!?! WE WON!!!

That is how we got our boy-girl twins, Chloe and Cason, who are now 18 months old. They bring us so much joy and have personally brought me so much restoration. I have a granddaughter that is 18 months older than them and also a brand new grandson. What fun I will have getting to watch them play and grow up together!

Why did I have to go through all of the pain to get to the promise? Only God knows the answer to that, but I trust Him and I know that in Him everything happens for a reason. Perhaps it is so I can minister to others here on earth that are struggling with infertility, or the pain of miscarriage. Maybe it was just all about His timing, but whatever the reason, I know we are blessed and highly favored with the outcome!

My loved one finally got some good news yesterday regarding their situation. It is not going to be an instant fix, but we are trusting God and His timing. He is in control and has our best interest at heart always!

Have you been struggling with something similar in your life? Perhaps you feel called to the mission field in a certain area, and it just doesn’t seem to be happening the way you thought it would. Maybe it’s something on a more personal level that you know the Lord spoke to you about, yet it seems to be taking forever to come through for you! Whatever it may be, just remember how much He loves you and stand strong in your faith that He will do what He said He would do! Maybe not right when you want, but it will always be right on time.

God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill? – Numbers 23:19
