Commanded Blessing

Justice, Obedience & Unity

Where does God command His blessing? What kind of people receive God’s blessings? Here are a few scriptures that invite us to a walk of justice. They also invite us to journey through obedience and to contend for unity, as this is the kind of lifestyle that liberates God’s blessing.

“Blessed are they who maintain justice, who constantly do what is right.”  ~ Psalm 106:3

Psalm 106 spotlights the blessing accompanying justice and righteousness. My friend Jennifer has a definition for justice that I love: Justice = taking up the cause for the restoration of every violation of Love. Taking the wrong and making it right.

What a beautiful definition of justice! When you take that definition, inserted in the above scripture, it would sound something like this: “Blessed are those, who take up the cause for the restoration of every violation of Love. Taking the wrong and constantly doing what is right.” This definition reminds me of a person who is on the frontlines of redeeming society, going into dark places, picking up broken pieces of violation and consistently walking in righteousness.  According to Psalm 106, this lifestyle has a blessing attached to it.

“Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in obedience to him.  You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours.”  ~ Psalm 128:1-2

Psalm 128 highlights the blessing attached to a lifestyle of obedience and the fear of the Lord. In a lifestyle of submissive compliance to the agenda of God, there also is a blessing.  According to Psalm 128 “they will eat the fruit of your labor, blessings and prosperity will be yours.”  What a wonderful promise!

“Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity . . . For there the Lord has commanded the blessing, life forevermore.” ~ Psalm 133

Psalm 133 encourages us to walk in those good and pleasant sweet spots of unity. When we can come into agreement with God’s heart, His desires and His agenda on the earth and dwell in unity with others in that place, the Lord promises in Psalm 133 a commanded blessing and life forevermore! Life springs out of those places of unity as well as God’s blessing!

So, where does God command His blessing and to what kind of people?

…To those pursuing a lifestyle of justice, obedience, and unity.
