What Can One Person Do for a Nation?

by Feb 28, 2017Missions

First Corinthians 15:21 says “For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead.”

Hitler

The first man, Adam, brought sin into the world. We see by the history books and by the things we have heard and read, that man is capable of the grossest and the most degrading atrocities known to this world. I have seen the results of man in his lowest state- the Hitlers, the Idi Amins, the Khrushchevs and the Pol Pots of the world were truly some of the most despicable of human beings that we can imagine. These men ruined whole countries and killed millions of their own people by the most unimaginable, painful deaths that have ever been known to mankind.

We saw firsthand how Pol Pot and the Khmer regime killed millions of the Cambodian people. We were truly sobered and saddened by the killing fields and then by Prison 21. I have visited the holocaust museum a number of times and seen the cruelty done not only to the Jewish people, but to all undesirables. Mass graves, people being burned alive, gassed, mutilated and killed in the most cruel ways imaginable.

A horrifying picture of one of the “killing fields” in Cambodia in the 70s.

I thought to myself “If one were to think on these men and what they did to a nation, they would think that the world has been taken over by evil or the devil himself. Then I thought, “what happens when someone is totally sold out to God for a city, a state, a country and a nation?

We can actually see examples of what one solitary person did to change not only a country but the world. I am now reminded of St. Patrick and his witness to Ireland. I understand that he brought the gospel to a nation that was altogether pagan. The witness of St. Patrick is still being felt today.

Heidi Baker

Then, I come to today and think of what people like Heidi Baker are doing for not only Mozambique, but the surrounding nations and for all of those she comes into contact with. She and Roland and her team have taken Mozambique for the Lord and are still finding unreached people groups that are receiving the saving knowledge of the gospel.

Let us also look at what people like Andrea Aasen and the rest of the XP Missions team is doing for the Lord in Cambodia. They are changing the culture by bringing young girls out of the brothels and bringing them into lucrative work and life styles. They are also doing a number of other things by working in the slum areas and with the children. Those who lived in darkness in Cambodia are seeing the light of Jesus through the work that is done there. They are changing their corner of the world.

Then let us look at Jesus Christ. One solitary life changed the whole world and put us all into a different era. You may ask, “What can one solitary Christian man or woman do?” Our example is Jesus, who changes everyone who comes in contact with Him.

Beautiful Painting of Jesus                      By Greg Olson

Do we walk as Christ walked? Do we go where Jesus would go? A few years ago we wore bracelets with the initials WWJD? What would Jesus do? Even though we don’t see those bracelets anymore the question is still such a valid one for us to ask everyday. Where should we go today? What should we say today? What should we pray today? Let us all be world changers!

What has Jesus put into your hand to use? What talents and special abilities has He given to you? He will show you how to use all that you are and all that you have to bring the kingdom to your corner of the world whether you are going to another country or  praying and staying here in the good ole U.S.A. He will use you where you are if you just ask Him today. What can I do for you today, Jesus?  Heal the sick, raise the dead, open blind eyes, open deaf ears, give unto the poor, feed the hungry and break open prison doors for those who are bound.  Isaiah 61:  all of this chapter.  We can be a person who changes a nation and our world working together. Amen!
